General Questions
What is a headshot?
A headshot is a professional photograph focused on your face and upper shoulders, used for business, acting, social media, or personal branding.
How long does a headshot session take?
Depending on the package, sessions typically range from 15-45 minutes.
How often should I update my headshots?
Most professionals update their headshots every 1–2 years, or whenever their appearance changes significantly.
How much should I expect to pay?
We offer a variety of packages, based on time and the number of images included. About $100-$400

Preparation Questions
What should I wear?
Solid colors photograph best. Choose outfits that align with your industry and brand. Avoid busy patterns or logos. Here is a link to see tips and advice on recommended colours and colours to avoid WHAT TO WEAR TIPS
Do you provide hair and makeup?
No, we do not offer hair and makeup.
How should I prepare for my session?
Get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, and bring clean pressed clothes. Lipstick or lip balm and a brush or comb.
During the Session
What if I don’t know how to pose?
No worries—I’ll guide you through natural, flattering poses and expressions throughout the session.
Do you photograph indoors, outdoors, or both?
We offer studio sessions only but we would be happy to refer you to a reputable studio that offers location headshots.
After the Session
How many photos do I get?
The number of final photos depends on your chosen package. You'll also have the opportunity to select your favorites online for final editing and retouching.
Do you retouch the photos?
Yes. All selected images include professional retouching to enhance your natural look.
When will I receive my images?
Spencer Studio is known for it's fast service and aims to upload your proofs to a gallery the same day. After we receive your final selection, you should receive your finished images the next day.
How will I receive my images?
You'll receive your proof set in a private on-line gallery, the final images will be emailed to you or on large orders will will provide you a link to download.
Industry-Specific Questions
What kind of headshots do actors need?
Actors typically need eighter standard 8X10 colour prints, with or without your name.
Or a high resolution JPEG colour digital file cropped to 8x0 at 300dpi
Can you match our company’s branding for corporate headshots?
Absolutely. We can use specific backgrounds, lighting styles, or color themes to ensure brand consistency.
Transparent, Invisible, Green Screen Backgrounds?
Yes, we can do transparent backgrounds (PNG Files) at No Extra Charge
Logistics
Where is Spencer Studio located?
We are located at 294-C, Dalehurst Dr, Ottawa, ON K2G 4E4 It is a residential area in the former City of Nepean. The nearest major intersection is Woodroffe Ave and West Hunt Club Road. Between The Nepean Sportsplex and Algonquin College.
How far in advance should I book?
You can usually book an appointment the same week, we accept appointments 2 weeks to a month in advance based on our schedule and the time of year, We recommend booking online you will see a BOOK NOW or BOOK APPOINTMENT button throughout our website. Our booking calendar is open 24/7 and our online calendar is up to the minute accurate with available times and date. BOOK NOW
What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
We allow rescheduling with at least 24–48 hours’ notice. Policies may vary by package.
Usage & Licensing
Can I use my headshots for LinkedIn, websites, and social media?
Yes—your licensing includes personal and professional use. Upon payment we include a photo release.
Do you provide images in both vertical and horizontal formats?
Yes. Upon request, we can provide vertical, horizontal or square images.
Typically we provide horizontal images that include bother shoulders. That gives you flexibility to crop your images vertical, horizontal or square at a later dae.
